Agent Protocol Engineer (A2A / MCP)
Remote Full-time$220k-$290k + meaningful equity
Agent-to-agent commerce only works if there's a clean wire between the consumer side and the vendor side. We're building that wire — Teleperson's agents talk to brand-side agents over A2A, MCP, and bespoke vendor APIs, and we need someone who lives in protocol-design land. You'll define the contracts, the auth model, and the negotiation patterns the rest of the industry will eventually copy.
Why this role matters
The protocol you ship here is the one consumers will use to delegate every routine commercial interaction to an agent for the next decade. There aren't many roles where the upside is "define how the next layer of the internet works."
What you'll do
- Design and document the agent-to-agent protocol surface Teleperson exposes to vendors (intents, capabilities, identity, receipts)
- Build the SDKs and gateways vendor agents use to connect into Teleperson's consumer graph
- Implement scoped delegation, signed receipts, and dispute-friendly audit trails for every cross-agent transaction
- Contribute upstream to A2A and MCP working groups; turn our learnings into open standards
- Pair with security on threat-modeling impersonation, prompt injection, and tool poisoning across agent boundaries
What we're looking for
- 5+ years backend engineering, including time on a real protocol or SDK (gRPC, OAuth, ActivityPub, MCP, A2A, etc.)
- Strong TypeScript and either Go or Rust for the performance-critical gateway layer
- Deep familiarity with at least one of: MCP, Google A2A, OpenAI Apps SDK, LangGraph, AutoGen
- Excellent technical writing — RFCs, ADRs, and SDK docs are part of the job
- Excited to work fully remote
Nice to have
- Contributed to an open standard or RFC
- Experience with cryptographic signing, DIDs, or verifiable credentials
- Has shipped a developer SDK that real third parties built on
